Ordinary household items, like plastic cups, can be used to make decorative and interesting crafts. Plastic cups can be used to make ornaments for a tree or any other place where you would want to hang them. Children can get involved too, as the cups are simple enough to work with. Try making Santa Claus or angel ornaments with plastic cups for your next holiday craft project.
Place your plastic cup upside down on a flat surface.
Attach the plastic foam ball to the bottom of the cup with a hot glue gun and allow it to dry and cool for about two minutes. The ball is the head of your ornament.
Paint the head with a skin-tone colour paint and a paintbrush, depending on how light or dark you want your Santa or angel to be.
Paint the body of your ornament with any colours you like. Consider using red for a Santa suit or a pastel colour for the angel dress.
Add bits of scrap fabric to add details to the dress or suit. Alternatively, you can paint the details with different colours of craft paints. Consider painting or gluing a belt on Santa, or add frilly details, like lace or velvet, on the angel dress.
Rip your cotton ball to separate and spread out the fibres. Glue some of the fibres to the ball to create a beard for Santa. Alternatively, cut some strands of yarn and glue them to the top of the ball to create hair for the angel.
Glue your miniature Santa hat, which can be found at craft stores, on top of the head for Santa. Alternatively, bend a 6-inch length of wire into a circle, with a 1-inch tail. The tail end of the should be straight. Poke it into the top of the ball to make an angel halo.
Use your craft paints to paint a face on your ornament.
Use scrap material to cut out two wings, if you are making an angel. Glue them to the back of the angel, about halfway down the cup.
Cut a 6-inch length of ribbon and knot it into a loop. Poke a straight pin into the knot, and then into the back of the plastic foam ball. This will allow you to hang the ornament.
