When the bulb or lamp in the dash of your PT Cruiser goes out it will need to be replaced with a new bulb. In order to replace the bulb in the dash you will need to remove the dashboard cover. This will allow you to access the interior of the dash, where the bulb is located. You can do this by first making sure that the power to the vehicle has been disabled prior to removing the dash.

  1. 1

Disconnect the battery cable from the negative battery terminal on the battery. This will prevent any of the electronics from receiving power while you are removing the dashboard cover.

  2. 2

Locate the pillar trim that surrounds the centre of the dash. Insert a flathead screwdriver under the top part of the trim on one side of the dash and gently pry up. This will disengage the tabs that are securing the trim to the dash.

  3. 3

Lift the trim piece up and toward you to release the lower tabs and then pull the trim piece off.

  4. 4

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the trim piece on the opposite side.

  5. 5

Pull off the knobs that are used for the climate controls and then use a screwdriver to pry out the window switch array. Push on the red sliding locking lever with the screwdriver and then disconnect the electrical connector.

  6. 6

Remove the screw that is used to secure the centre bezel and then pull it away from the dash.

  7. 7

Locate the two screws behind the centre bezel and remove them with the screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver around the perimeter of the dashboard cover and pry up to release the clips and tabs holding it in place.

  8. 8

    Pull out the dashboard cover.

Tips and warnings

  • If the knobs do not want to come off easily you can use a pair of pliers with the teeth covered with tape.
  • Do not force the trim pieces and dash cover off because you could break the plastic clips and tabs.
