Turn on your Apple laptop and log in to your account. The Mac operating system provides built-in utilities to check various information, including the serial number, without having to power down and remove the battery.
Click on the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner of your screen and click "About This Mac."
Click on the grey text that displays your version number, located under the dark "Mac OS X" text and Apple logo. Click it until you see your serial number.
