You can delete AVG log files without harming your computer. AVG uses log files to track what a computer does to identify what is causing a problem. You submit these files to AVG to diagnose problems so that AVG can recode the program to fix the problems. However, experienced computer users may also use the logs to diagnose problems. At times, you may want to delete the log files.

1

Clearing Active History Logs

You can clear AVG's Active history logs within the AVG program window. Click the AVG icon on the taskbar to open the program window. Select "Event history log" from the "History" option on the menu, click on the "Event History Option," select the "Refresh list" button and press the "Empty list" button to clear the active log. Viewing Hidden Files

You might need to configure Windows Explorer to see "hidden folders" to delete the AVG logs. Windows does not protect AVG logs from deletion, but Windows locates them in a "hidden" folder to make accidental deletion more difficult. You can set your computer to show hidden files and folders. Click the "Start" button and select the "Control Panel." Select the "Appearance and Personalization" option and click "Folder Options." Select the "View" tab, click on the "Show hidden files and folders" option under the "Advanced Settings" tab and click "OK."

Clearing System Logs

You can delete previously saved log files through Windows Explorer. Open Windows Explorer and click on "C:\" from the hard drive list. Open the "ProgramData" folder, select the "MFAdata" folder and open the "logs" directory. Press the "Ctrl" and "A" keys at the same time to highlight all the logs, right-click on the highlighted files, left-click on the "Delete" option and select "Yes" to confirm that you want to delete multiple items. If you installed Windows to another drive than the "C" drive, the saved logs will be at the same location on the drive. If you use Windows XP, you can find the data log files under the directory "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MFAData\logs\" instead.

Data Dump Files

AVG log files are a type of "dump file." A dump file is a list of the computer's processes leading up to an error. The information stored in a dump file is independent from all other programs, and programs do not need the data stored in a dump file to function. Deleting dump files will not cause any problems with a computer.
