Your iPod Touch 2G device is configured to work with the iTunes program by default, although you can use other media managers to add music to the device. Third-party music managers are available online at software download sites such as Download.com (see Resources) or you can download the media managers directly from the companies' websites. Although these third-party programs enable you to add music to your iPod Touch, you will need to use iTunes in order to update your iPod Touch's firmware.

Download CopyTrans Manager (see References). As a media manager, CopyTrans Manager enables you to transfer music, videos and more from your computer and allows two-way transfers in case you purchase music or videos from the iTunes Store on your iPod Touch. This program is available only for Windows PCs and is free to use. Once downloaded and installed, simply plug your iPod Touch into your computer using the USB cable and drag the music files to the iPod icon in the CopyTrans Manager program.
Manage your music with Xilisoft iPod Rip (see References). As a music manager, iPod Rip is compatible with Windows PCs and Macintosh computers and allows two-way media transfer. Additional features of Xilisoft iPod Rip include playlist creation and iPod-to-iPod media transfer. Run the program and connect your iPod Touch to your computer using the iPod USB cable. Select the music you wish to transfer by clicking it to highlight it, then clicking the "Mac (or PC) to iPod" icon.
Sync your iPod with Songbird (see References). This free program is available for Windows PCs and Macintosh computers and allows you to sync your iPod Touch to the program. In order to successfully synchronise your iPod Touch, you'll need to download the iPod Device Support add-on (see Resources). Once Songbird and the add-on are installed, run the program and connect your iPod Touch to your computer. Click the iPod Touch tab in the Songbird sidebar and click the "Music" tab. Select "All Music" to sync your entire music library to the iPod Touch. Click "Sync" to begin the transfer.
