A powered mixer contains built-in amplifiers to boost the signal from stereo components and musical instruments so a preamp is not needed to drive the equipment. When connected, the mixer can then be used to shape the sound qualities of the various audio components. A powered amplifier supplies the energy to drive speakers. Connecting the mixer to the amp requires a standard set of stereo audio cables so the processed signal from the mixer can be played through the speakers connected to the amplifier.

Instructions

  1. 1

Turn off and unplug both the mixer and the amplifier to prevent a short circuit while connecting the two components.

  2. 2

Connect the plugs on one end of the stereo cable to the Audio OUT jacks on the mixer, typically located along the back edge of the component. Insert the white plug in the left audio jack and the red plug in the right.

  3. 3

Insert the plugs on the other end into the amplifier's audio IN jacks, again using white for the left jack and red for the right.

  4. 4

Turn on the equipment and set the amplifier selector knob to the set of audio IN jacks connecting it with the powered mixer. Adjust the volume on the amp to the desired level.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not plug in the components to the electricity until all audio connections are complete.
