Nothing looks better than a shiny chrome finish. The higher quality the chrome, the longer it will maintain its shiny appearance. Unfortunately, no matter how high quality your chrome finish is, it will eventually need to be restored. The good news is you can do it at home quite easily with a few household products.

Wash the surface clean. Use soap and water to wash the chrome surface and remove any surface dirt, grime or mildew and reveal what will need to be removed.

Remove oxidation with a steel wool soap pad and water. Dip the pad into a bowl of room temperature water and scrub the chrome finish firmly with the pad to remove oxidation spots.

Remove oxidation and grime from cracks and hard to reach places by pouring some household cleaner into a bowl or small bucket. Dip a toothbrush into the cleaner. and use it to scrub in cracks and other hard to reach areas of the chrome finish.

Rinse the chrome finish clean with clean water to remove any residue from the chrome finish and dry the surface with a towel.

Restore the shine to the chrome finish by using a chrome polish purchased from your local automotive store and a soft cotton rag or T-shirt. Dab the surface lightly with polish using the cloth and rub the chrome surface in small circles until it begins to shine.
