How to Change the Windshield Wiper Blades on a 2003 Nissan Maxima

Windshield wiper blades wear down over time, particularly if they're used often. When your wiper blades begin to fail, they will often make a "screeching" noise as they pass up and down your windshield; in addition, worn out wiper blades will do little to increase your visibility. The 2003 Nissan Maxima stock wiper blades are 20-inch blades; however, many aftermarket providers sell wipers of varying lengths that are compatible with the vehicle.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Replacement wiper blades
  1. Step 1

Turn the engine off and remove the key. Pull the wiper arm back to bring it to the service position.

  2. Step 2

Pull the wiper blade back against its hinge. Depress the locking pin where the blade meets the arm to release the wiper blade.

  3. Step 3

Insert the new wiper blade. Push it into the hinge on the wiper blade until the locking pin clicks. This signals that the blade is secure. Lower the wiper arm into its normal position.

  4. Step 4

Repeat the procedure for the other windshield wiper blade, if applicable.

Tips & Warnings
  • Letting worn out windshield wiper blades scrape against your windshield can potentially cause scratches. In addition, the wiper arm does not move smoothly, which puts extra stress on the wiper motor. Replace your wipers at the first sign of wear to prevent this.
