How to Reset a Sony TV

Updated April 17, 2017

Two methods exist to reset a Sony TV to its original factory settings. The method you use will depend on the model of your television. According to the Sony eSupport website, the process of resetting an older-model Sony TV differs from the reset procedure of a newer Sony television. However, both processes require the use of the TV's remote control.

Press the "Power" button on the TV to turn it on.

Press and hold the "Reset" button on the remote control.

Press and release the "Power" button on the TV while still holding down the "Reset" button on the remote control. The TV will turn off, then turn back on.

Release the "Reset" button on the remote.

Navigate to an on-screen menu you want to reset.

Press the "Reset" button on the remote control. The menu will reset.

Repeat this process for every menu you want to reset.

Tip

If you are unsure of how old your Sony TV is, try both reset methods to see which one works.
