How to Convert Dream to WMV

Updated April 17, 2017

Dream (*.dream) is a file extension for the "DreamScene" program created by Microsoft. "Dream" files are superior-quality animated wallpaper files which operate only on Windows Vista. WMV (Windows Media Video) is a Microsoft-made digital video compression format used by numerous common codecs and players.

In order to convert from Dream to WMV, a conversion program must be used. Several of these are available online as free trial downloads.

Download and install Need 4 Video Converter 7.0 (see Resources below).

Run the conversion program on the desktop. Select "File," then "Open" from the top menu bar. Choose a Dream file for conversion. Click "Open."

Select "WMV" in the "Output file:" field. Click the "Browse" button next to the "Save to:" field. Select a target destination for the converted file. Click "OK."

Enter a file name into the "Save as:" field.

Click the red "Convert" button at the bottom of the main window to begin the conversion process.

Download and install "Any Video Converter Freeware" (see Resources below).

Run the conversion program on the desktop. Click the "Add Video" button. Select a Dream file for conversion. Click "Add."

Select "WMV (*.wmv)" from the "Profile:" menu. Click the "Output Folder" button. Select a target destination folder for the converted WMV file. Click "OK."

Click the "Encode" button to begin the conversion process.
