A popular free e-mail service offered by Microsoft is Hotmail. Setting up a Hotmail account is simple; so is closing one. If your account has been hacked or your e-mail box is inundated with spam, closing the account is an easy remedy. Before closing your e-mail address, alert friends, family members and associates of your plans. You may want to forward them a replacement e-mail address, if you have one, to stay connected.
Go to the MSN home page. Click on the tab in the upper left corner labelled "Hotmail."
Log into your account by typing in your username, password and hitting the "Enter" key.
Click on the "Help" key located at the upper right of the page. It will appear as a blue question mark.
Select "Table of Contents" from the sidebar on the left.
Click on "Setup a Windows Live Hotmail Account."
Scroll down to "Close Your Account." It will be located at the bottom of the list.
Click on the link that says "Close Account."
Your Hotmail account will automatically expire if you do not check your e-mail within 270 days of signing up. It will also expire if there is no activity on the account for the first 10 days of activation.
