You can remove the headlights in your 2002 Volkswagen Golf easily with no tools required. If you are replacing a burnt-out bulb or upgrading to a brighter style, you can obtain replacement bulbs from an auto parts retailer or Volkswagen dealership. If you will be reinstalling the same bulb, touch only the socket when removing it. The oils from your fingers can cause the Halogen bulb to fail prematurely.

Instructions

  1. 1

Raise the bonnet of your Volkswagen Golf and locate the bulb assembly in the front of the engine compartment. Disconnect the wiring harness from the bulb assembly by pulling it straight out of the connection.

  2. 2

Grasp the lock ring at the base of the bulb socket and twist it counterclockwise while squeezing the ends of the ring. Remove the lock ring from the light assembly and set it aside in a safe place.

  3. 3

Grasp the end of the bulb socket and pull the bulb directly out of the assembly.

Tips and warnings

  • You should replace your headlight bulbs in pairs, even if only one has failed. Replacing bulbs in pairs will help extend the life of the bulbs.
