How Do I Clean My Watch Band?

If you get tired of wearing a dirty, funky watchband, there is a much easier way to clean it than you might think. The sweat can build up under the band and start to leave marks on your wrist—or it might just smell. You probably have most of the needed band-cleaning supplies around the house, and doing it yourself will save you money compared to taking your watch to a jewellery store for cleaning. If you wipe the band down every night, cleanings won't be required as often.

Instructions

  1. 1

Remove the watch from the band if possible. You don't want to harm the timepiece.

  2. 2

Soak your band in water and dish soap or rubbing alcohol for a few minutes or scrub the band instead with the toothbrush. Wipe leather bands down with a solution of white vinegar and water.

  3. 3

Use the bristles on the toothbrush to scrub between the links if the watch has a metal band.

  4. 4

Dry the band with the lint-free cloth and use the slightly damp cloth to clean the watch face as well.

Tips and warnings

  • You can also clean metal watch bands in jewellery cleaner, but don't put the actual timepiece in the solution.
