Typically, Garmin International, Inc. releases updated maps for its devices once a year. Therefore, updating your maps on your Garmin device is helpful in ensuring GPS accuracy. Download the Garmin Communicator Plugin by selecting "Download for Windows" on the Garmin Communicator Plugin page. If you are Mac user, click on the "Download-Mac" link located at the far right-hand corner under the "Quick links" section. To go to this page, see Resources.
Select the "Save file" button when the download dialogue box opens and then follow the prompts to install the program. You must close your browser during the installation process.
Connect your Garmin device to your computer using your original Garmin cable, and then visit the "Find Maps Update" page on the Garmin home page. To go to this page, see Resources.
Select the "nüvifone" link if you would like to update your Garmin Nuvifone. Click on the "All other devices" link if you would like to update all other Garmin GPS devices. You are redirected to another page.
Click "Find Map Update," and then wait while the Garmin Communicator Plugin checks to see if there is a new map software for your device. If there is a new map release for your device, you are redirected to another page where you can purchase, download and install the map directly into your device. If you have the most up-to-date release, you are redirected to another page notifying you that there are no map updates for your device.
