How to Build a Glass Wall Fountain
Sea Glass (sea glass image by Patrick Moyer from

Wall fountains contribute to a serene atmosphere in your home or outdoor living space. You can build a glass wall fountain with decorative sea glass to hang on any wall. Sea glass is semitranslucent, depending on the colours you select. Look for bags of sea glass in an array of colours in craft and discount stores. Keep the beach theme for the wall fountain by filling the planter reservoir with decorative sea shells.

  1. 1

Drill a 1/2-inch hole in the centre of the 2-by-4 sheet of glass, six inches from one end. Make sure to use a carbide or diamond drill bit to drill the glass. This is the top of the wall fountain.

  2. 2

Glue a two-inch square block of wood to each of the top corners of the glass. The blocks will brace the fountain against the wall.

  3. 3

Place the glass face up, blocks down, onto a flat work surface. Cover the front of the glass sheet with sea glass, up to 10-inches from the bottom end. Do not cover the drilled hole. Clear waterproof construction adhesive will work to attach the sea glass to the glass sheet. Allow the adhesive to dry for 24 hours.

  4. 4

Seal any drainage openings of the 2-by-10 hanging wall planter with silicone sealant. Let the sealant dry. Hang the planter on the wall where you plan to place the fountain. The planter is the water reservoir for the glass wall fountain, so make sure that you attach the planter securely to the wall.

  5. 5

Cut a four-foot long section of plastic tubing. Fit the tubing through the 1/2-inch hole in the glass, from the backside. Tape the tubing in place on the back of the glass with duct tape. The sea glass should block the view of the duct tape from the front. If not, secure the tubing to the glass with clear construction adhesive.

  6. 6

Attach Velcro strips to the wood blocks on the back of the glass sheet. Attach corresponding Velcro strips to the wall where the blocks will rest. Stand the sea glass-covered glass inside the planter with the uncovered glass at the bottom. Brace the glass to the back of the planter with bricks. Press the Velcro strips at the back of the fountain and on the wall together.

  7. 7

Place the submersible fountain pump inside the hanging planter. Attach the end of the plastic tubing to the pump. Camouflage the bricks and the pump with more sea glass or sea shells. Fill the planter with water.
