If you want to switch services, providers or cell phones, you can still keep your old phone number. The AT&T Go Service will allow you to keep your phone number, just as long as you notify them before they make the switch. Keeping your phone number will be a big convenience for both you and the people around you. You do not have to confuse them by providing them with a new cell phone number.

Instructions

  1. 1

Call AT&T to activate your GoPhone service. Tell them that you want to keep your current phone number from your previous account. Disconnect your old account after you make the switch.

  2. 2

Provide your account information, such as your name, telephone number and street address. Provide your phone's IMEI number, located on the bottom of your battery.

  3. 3

Choose the Go Prepaid service. AT&T activates this service through your new SIM card. It allows you to add minutes whenever you need.

  4. 4

Enter your new SIM card into the phone. Its slot is located near the battery, on the back of your phone. Once the card is inserted, your cell phone will access the AT&T Go network.

  5. 5

Wait for your phone to activate. This could take a few hours or a full day. You will receive a confirmation text message by AT&T that you have successfully activated your phone.
