How to Connect a VoIP Phone to a Socket

A VoIP phone (Voice-over Internet Protocol) works with an electronic adapter to place and receive telephone calls over the Internet. All VoIP services use an adapter box to connect the Internet source, such as fiber-optic cable or a digital subscriber line (DSL), with the telephone. The equipment can be connected in a few minutes to phone and wall sockets with standard telephone jacks and electrical outlets. No special wiring or equipment is required for the setup.

  • VoIP adapters are designed to self-program and activate when connected to the Internet and a power supply.
  • Connect the telephone and Ethernet cables to their sockets before plugging the equipment into an electrical outlet.
