How to Connect a JVC Camcorder to a TrackerCam

TrackerCam is a brand of surveillance equipment manufactured by Eagletron that enables a digital video camera to pan, tilt and scan an area from a motorized mount. A video device, such as a JVC camcorder, mounts to the top of the TrackerCam. Both devices are then connected to a computer or laptop with USB cables. Once the software is installed, the computer can be used to adjust the viewing range of the JVC camcorder to tilt up and down, and pan left to right. The setup takes only a few minutes.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 USB cables
  • Computer with two available USB ports
  1. Step 1

Set up the TrackerCam on a level surface overlooking the area the camera will survey.

  2. Step 2

Attach the JVC camcorder to the TrackerCam using the standard tripod mount underneath the camera and turning the tripod bolt on the TrackerCam clockwise.

  3. Step 3

Connect one end of a USB cable (use the cable supplied with the camera) to the USB port on the back of the JVC camera, and then route the cable around the clips on the TrackerCam so the cable does not interfere with the mobility of the camera when it pans and tilts. Plug the other end of the USB cable into a free USB port on the computer.

  4. Step 4

Connect one end of the second USB cable to the USB port on the TrackerCam; connect the other end to a free USB port on the computer.

Tips & Warnings
  • The JVC camcorder should not be used with the battery pack for surveillance purposes, since the battery pack can die and require recharging within 2 hours.
  • The TrackerCam can support camcorders weighing no more than 2 pounds.
