How to Clean a Stereo CD Laser

If you are experiencing playback issues with your stereo CD player, such as skipping or the player's inability to read an inserted CD, it may be due to the laser in the player being dirty. Dust, dirt, hair or any other debris can result in playback problems.

Things you need

  • Compressed air
  • Cleaning CD

    Power on the CD player and open the CD tray.

    Spray a few shots of compressed air into the insides of the CD player. The compressed air should remove any debris or other objects on the CD laser.

    Place a cleaning CD into the tray of the CD player and close the CD tray. The CD has small bristles on the bottom of the disk to remove debris from the laser.

    Push the "Play" button and allow the cleaning CD to play for a minute or so.

  5. 5

    Eject the CD cleaner from the CD tray. You can now begin using your CD player without any issues.
