Open up Fireworks and create a new document. Select "File" and then choose "New." Choose the properties for the banner by selecting a colour from the palette next to "Custom" and add the appropriate banner dimensions in the box.
Add text to the banner. Locate the "Tools" palette, and then select the "text tool." The text tool appears as a large capital "A." Click on the banner, and type the text you wish to include. Use the text properties box to change the text style, colour and size.
Insert a photo or graphic into the banner. You can drag and drop the photo from an Internet browser or your computer directly onto the banner. Drag the image to its new location, and then resize the image to suit your needs by selecting "Modify," choosing "Transform" and clicking on "Scale."
Optimise the banner to export it to upload. Select "Window" and then click "Optimize." Once the panel opens, select "GIF Websnap 128" from the "Settings" menu.
Export the banner to your computer. Select "File" and then click "Export." Choose a location to save your banner. Change the "Save As Type" menu to say "Images Only," and then select "Save."
Save the banner for future editing. From the "File" menu, select "Export." Change the file type in the "Save As Type" menu to "PNG." Choose a location to save the file, and select "Save."
