Making a shark tooth necklace with a fossilised shark tooth makes a bold statement and a great unisex piece of jewellery. If you like nautical-themed jewellery that includes natural elements in the designs, you can try your hand at creating your own simple shark tooth necklace. This is a very easy necklace to make if you are just tying the shark tooth to a length of string and you won't even need to buy any wire or use special tools. You will, however, need to use the right technique to tie the tooth so that it is secure.

  1. 1

Get a shark tooth by buying one from an Internet shop or a store that sells novelty and natural jewellery findings. If you live close to a beach by waters where sharks are known to swim, search for shark teeth along the edge of the water where older materials tend to get washed up. Make sure that the shark tooth that you use has a wide top so that it is almost in the shape of a T.

  2. 2

Cut a foot of string just to make sure you have enough--you can always trim some off later. Find the middle of the string and wrap it around the side of the tooth that you are designating as the back (the side that will face you when you wear it).

  3. 3

Cross the two ends of the string on the other side of the tooth and tie a knot. The top of the tooth should be wide enough to hold the string down and not allow it to slip off. Double the string back across to the back of the tooth and up to the top of the tooth. Make sure it is tight all the way around and make another knot. Bring both ends of the string up to the top of the tooth and make another three or four more knots.
