Every couple of years, Garmin provides map updates for their customers. Downloading these updates will keep your GPS up-to-date with the latest maps, streets and buildings. This way you do not come across any surprises while travelling and using your Garmin. Garmin does charge for the map update. Using myGarmin coupled with the Garmin Communicator and Download Manager, you will be able to quickly update your maps.

Go to the myGarmin website (see Resources section).
Log into your myGarmin account or click the link under the log in section to register for a new account. Follow the steps on the site to register your account. You will need to provider some personal information and set up a username and password.
Register your Garmin GPS if you haven't already. You need to provide the information on your device to be able check for updates. Click the "Register" link on the home page of your account to do this.
Click "Get Now" on the home page after registering the device to get the new map.
Select "PC download" or Mac download" on the next screen.
Install the Garmin website plugin. This allows the website to communicate with your GPS to determine if it needs and update. You will be prompted with this download after you select whether you are downloading to a PC or Mac.
Connect the device to the computer using the USB/mini USB cable that came with it after the install is complete. You can also get a USB/mini USB cable from any computer, cell phone or general retail store.
Click "Launch Download Manager" after the website recognises the update and your device.
Install the "Download Manager" when prompted to after clicking the button.
Save the Garmin map file (it will be an EXE file) to a place you will find easily later. Saving to the desktop may be the easiest.
Click "Launch" after the download finishes to begin installing the file.
Follow the installation steps that appear on the computer. These steps will transfer and install the map update you just downloaded from the computer to your connected GPS. After selecting "Finish" on the installer, disconnect your Garmin.
