How to Make Hotfix Crystal Style Stencil Templates

Written by linda donahue | 13/05/2017

Hotfix crystals add sparkle to clothing and accessories. The use of stencil templates helps place the crystals in a pattern or design. Stencils can be easily homemade with sturdy paper, such as butcher's paper, a marker and a hand-held hole punch. Because making the stencil may cause it to wrinkle in places, you can iron it back out once you've punched all the holes. Creating a stencil in the style of hotfix crystal stencils is just a matter of using your artistic talents.

Draw your design on butcher's paper. Draw it fully with lines, if that helps. For instance, if you want a leaf and vine pattern, draw the desired leaf and vine. Then, in key positions, mark the design with large dots to represent where a hotfix crystal will go.

Using the hole punch, punch in holes over every large dot marked on the pattern. Depending on how deep or wide your design is, the paper may need to be bunched or folded to reach some of the spots.

Iron out the wrinkled stencil pattern. It is now ready to use. Use it like you would any other stencil template.
