When you have a new ironing board that needs a cover or you need to replace an existing ironing board cover, you must first measure your ironing board, then the cover, to ensure it will fit your board. The most important measurements are the length, the width at the board's widest point, and the depth of both the ironing board and the cover.

Instructions

  1. 1

Lay the ironing board cover out on a flat surface with the cover's elasticated or drawstring edge facing up.

  2. 2

Position the end of the tape measure at the narrow point of the inside of the ironing board cover. Stretch the tape measure down to the bottom edge of the inside of the cover. Do not include the side depth fabric--only the cover's top ironing surface. Write down this length measurement.

  3. 3

Position the end of the tape measure at the widest point of the width on the inside of the ironing board cover. Stretch the tape measure over to the other side edge of the inside of the cover. Again, do not include the cover's side depth--only the top ironing surface. Write down this width measurement.

  4. 4

Measure the depth of the sides of the ironing board cover. This is the amount of fabric extending down from the top of the cover to the bottom edge (the gathered or elasticated edge). Write down this depth measurement.

  5. 5

Compare these three measurements with the length, width and depth of the ironing board to ensure the cover will fit the board.
