Many modern laptops come equipped with processors and graphics cards that provide clear and crisp images on your computer screen. However, if you would like to get optimum picture quality while playing your favourite computer game or view crystal clear digital images on your Toshiba Satellite laptop screen, then you may want to think about installing a new graphics card. If you don't have the money to take your laptop to a service technician, you can install the card yourself. It's not the simplest task in the world, but you should be able to accomplish it relatively quickly with a minimum of tools.

  1. 1

Turn the laptop face down and remove the battery by gently sliding it out of its housing.

  2. 2

Remove the seven screws securing the four different compartments on the bottom of the computer (hard drive cover, modem cover, memory card cover, LAN jacks cover). Take off each of these covers, and remove the hard drive and memory cards from their compartments by gently pulling them out. They should pop out easily.

  3. 3

Remove the two screws in the modem compartment that secure the modem card to the system board. In the LAN jack compartment, disconnect the LAN jack cable that connects to the system board by gently pulling it up.

  4. 4

Turn the notebook right side up, insert the tip of your screwdriver underneath the thin securing strip at the top of your keyboard and lift it up. Pull back on the securing strip and remove it completely.

  5. 5

Remove the two screws at the top of the keyboard that hold it in place. Lift up the keyboard, but be mindful of the keyboard flat cable connected to the system board.

  6. 6

Disconnect the keyboard flat cable on the system board by pulling it up. This will release the keyboard from the board. Remove the keyboard by simply pulling it out. This will expose the entire system board, and the graphics card compartment will be labelled in the centre of the board.

  7. 7

Remove the old graphics card by sliding it out of its housing and replace with the new card. Reassemble the Toshiba Satellite in the reverse order you took it apart.
