The service light indicator on a Mercedes illuminates when your Mercedes requires service. A special tool, called a diagnostic reset tool, is needed to reset the service indicator on the dash. Unfortunately, most people try to disconnect the battery to reset the service on a Mercedes, but this will not work; the ECU, or electronic control unit, stores this information so that when the power is restored, the service light will come back on.

Open the fuse panel under the steering wheel. Most Mercedes vehicles have a lock handle that you must pull or twist to open the fuse panel. The exact procedure will vary according to the year and model of your Mercedes.
Plug the pinned electrical connector into the port on the fuse panel made for the reset tool. Only one port is large enough to accept the pinned connector of the diagnostic tool.
Turn the ignition key to the "II" position and wait for the light to stop flashing on the diagnostic reset tool. This will clear all of the Mercedes trouble codes and reset any service indicators.
