How to Archive Apple Mail

Apple Mail is an email application that helps you organize your inbox online and offline. If your inbox keeps filling up with old messages dating back months or even years, clear out space and store messages using Apple's default mail archival feature or a third-party mail program.

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Postbox 1.0
  • Apple Mail

    Archiving Apple Mail Emails Using Postbox

  1. Step 1

    Download Postbox using the link provided in the "Resources" section of this article. Click the "Downloads" tab on the site and move your cursor to "All Programs". Click "Email and Chat" from the drop-down menu, then "Staff Picks" at the top of the screen. Click the "Postbox" link and the "Download" button. Drag the "Postbox" icon to your "Applications" folder to install it.

  2. Step 2

    Double-click the "Postbox" icon in your "Applications" folder to run the program.

  3. Step 3

    Import your Apple Mail into the program by clicking the "OK" button.

  4. Step 4

    Select the message you want to import by clicking it once; hold down the "Shift" key to highlight multiple messages. Click "Message" at the top of the screen, then "Archive" to send your messages to the "Archive" folder.

    Open Apple Mail. Click and highlight your messages by holding the "Shift" key.

  7. Step 2

    Click "Mailbox" at the top of your screen and select "Archive Mailbox" from the drop-down menu.

  8. Step 3

    Select a destination folder for your archives and click the "Choose" button.
