It's Halloween and time to make some interesting costumes. You or somebody you love really enjoys pig paraphernalia so you think it might be a cute idea to make a pig costume. Or perhaps your child just got one of the leading roles in "The Three Little Pigs." Either way, making pig ears for a costume is a fun project for a family or group of children dressing up. When Halloween in or the play is over, add the pig ears to a dress-up bin so children can use them for creative play.

  1. 1

Browse through magazines and online images to see what pig ears look like. Look at your different options, from large and floppy to small and pointy. Determine which type of pig ears you want to make to go along with your pig costume.

  2. 2

Draw a pattern for two pig ears onto a piece of paper. Erase lines and redraw the ears until you are satisfied with the way the pig ears look. Remember to add a bit of space at the bottom of the ears so you can easily attach them to a headband at a later point.

  3. 3

Cut out your pattern and place it onto some felt. Carefully cut the felt around the patterns so you have two felt ear pieces to work with.

  4. 4

Add some stability to the ears if they are large, and you don't want them floppy. Do this by colouring some cardboard to match the ears and cutting it so it fits inside the ears. Use a hot glue gun to glue it to the fabric on the back. Leave approximately 1/2-inch at the bottom of the felt so it can attach to the velvet headband.

  5. 5

Pick up one ear and put hot glue on the base. Wrap it around the headband and secure it to itself and the headband with the hot glue. Repeat this process with the other ear. Make sure the cardboard sides are facing in the same direction.

Tips and warnings

  • If you don't want to use hot glue, you could sew the ears to the velvet headband.
