Another advantage of FolkArt Enamel paint is that Dishwasher-proof items painted with this paint are still safe to wash in the dishwasher. Instructions

  1. 1

Prepare the ceramic or glass item by wiping all of the surfaces with isopropyl alcohol. Allow the alcohol to dry completely.

  2. 2

Shake the paint bottles vigorously before opening the containers. Squeeze small circles of paint onto the palette.

  3. 3

Apply the paint to the ceramic or glass item, loading the paintbrushes carefully and stroking the paint onto the surfaces of the item you are painting.

  4. 4

Continue painting the item until you have added all of the colours and designs you desire. Rinse brushes with warm water and change brushes as necessary.

  5. 5

Allow the paints to dry for approximately 10 minutes before proceeding.

  6. 6

Load the FolkArt Clear Medium enamel onto a clean paintbrush. Apply the Clear Medium to the design area to protect it and ensure the paint adheres to the surface sufficiently. Do not apply the Clear Medium to the entire item---only the design area.

  7. 7

Allow the painted item to air dry for three weeks. Alternatively, allow the item to air dry for one hour and then place it into a cold oven. Heat the oven to 176 degrees C and bake the item for 30 minutes. Turn the oven off and allow the oven and the item to cool completely before you remove the item.

  8. 8

Wash the item by hand or on the top rack of a dishwasher.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not paint surfaces that will come into direct contact with food. Rather, paint the underside of a glass plate. Do not allow paint to touch the rims of glasses or cups.
  • Do not microwave painted items.
