Creating a quarter-fold birthday invitation card can be frustrating and time consuming, unless you know how to take advantage of Microsoft templates. If you search the Internet, you may come across a few quarter-fold invitation templates for Microsoft Word or PowerPoint, but neither program is especially easy to use. The easiest and most effective quarter-fold invitation templates are found within Microsoft Publisher. Microsoft Publisher is found within the Microsoft Office suite of software.

  1. 1

Open the Microsoft Publisher. The start-up screen will show you a list of available formats. Select "invitation cards" from the list of formats. Within the invitation card format will be a list of pre-loaded categories for various templates. Although "birthday" is one of the options, you can make a birthday invitation using any of the other occasions as well.

  2. 2

Select the invitation card template you wish to use. A preview of your selection will appear in the upper right corner of your screen. Underneath the preview of your invitation card will be a customisation menu and an option menu. Make sure you see the "quarter-page fold" option under the page-size drop-down menu. You are given the option of making a "quarter-page top fold" or "quarter-page side fold." This will determine whether your invitation card opens left-to-right or top-to-bottom.

  3. 3

Review all customised options and page layout selections before clicking on "create" at the bottom right of the screen. Once you have clicked on "create," you will be able to edit your quarter-fold birthday invitation. Depending on which template you selected, you will see various text boxes or images on the first page of your template. To edit, reposition, or remove images, first click on the image and a border and menu will appear. Click on desired function or click and drag the image to a new location. To edit text, simply click on the text box and type your desired message. You can highlight your text and use the function toolbar at the top of the window to edit font, font sizes and colours.

  4. 4

Look to the bottom of the Microsoft Publisher window on your current screen. Since your card will have four pages, you should see four boxes aligned at the bottom of the window. Use these boxes as a tool to switch between pages when editing.

  5. 5

Enter all information and print your birthday invitation. Making two half-folds will arrange the pages to be read correctly in their quarter-fold layout.

Tips and warnings
