How to Refund a PayPal Payment

PayPal is an online site that allows users to exchange money without revealing credit card or bank account information. The site can be used for buying a variety of goods or services online and is a preferred method of payment for eBay auctions. PayPal allows users to issue full or partial refunds for payments that were received in error. Users can initiate a refund online through the PayPal account information screen.

Instructions

    Open the PayPal website in your web browser (see Resources for link). Enter your email address and password in the fields on the left-hand side of the page to log in to your PayPal account.

    Click on the "History" button toward the top of the page. Scroll through your list of transactions to locate the payment you wish to issue a refund for.

  3. 3

    Click on the blue "Details" link next to the transaction you are refunding. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Issue Refund" link.

    Enter the amount to be refunded in the "Refund Amount" box. Enter an optional note to the sender if desired. Click on the "Continue" button.

  5. 5

    Confirm the amount to be refunded. Click on the "Edit" button to change the amount. Click on the "Submit" button to refund the payment.
