Removing the tail light cover or lens from the Nissan Frontier can be done to replace bulbs, replace the lens or to repair the wiring behind it. The tail light cover is part of an entire assembly that must be removed together and can be done with relative ease. You will need basic tools to remove it and if you are replacing the lens or housing, you can purchase a new one from your Nissan dealer or get a second-hand assembly from many salvage yards.

  1. 1

Open the rear hatch or tailgate of your Pathfinder. Locate the screws that secure the taillights on the inner edge of the light assembly.

  2. 2

Remove the two screws with a Phillips screwdriver and put the screws somewhere safe so you will have them for reassembly. The screws turn counterclockwise to loosen and should not be terribly tight.

  3. 3

Pull the tail light straight out of the body and locate the light sockets on the rear of the assembly. There will be three sockets with wires attached to them.

  4. 4

Turn the sockets counterclockwise and pull them straight out of the housing. Lay the bulbs and sockets aside for now. The lens or housing is now free of the truck and you can do whatever you need to with it.

Tips and warnings

  • Be sure to pull straight out on the lens or housing when removing it from the truck or you may damage the tabs that help align it on the back of the housing.
