How to Hook Up a Mac to an Overhead Projector

When you need to display a presentation or a video to an audience, there are few tools that are better than the overhead projector. Windows computers can quickly connect to an overhead projector via a VGA cable. Most Macintosh computers, especially the Macbook and other laptops, do not have the proper set-up needed for you to hook up a Mac to an overhead projector.

Things you need

  • Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter
  • Mini-DVI Cable

    Connect the Mini-DVI cable to the Mini-DVI port of your Mac. This is usually located in the back of the computer.

    Connect the VGA Adapter to the other end of the Mini-DVI cable.

  3. 3

    Connect the cable to the port located on the back of the overhead projector and turn the projector on.

  4. 4

    Change your Mac to display using the overhead projector. This is usually done by pressing F7 on your computer, however you should refer to your Macbook user guide for specific instructions should that not work.

Tips and warnings

  • You can adjust the resolution of the display by going to your System Preferences.
