Aluminium bicycle wheels can accumulate grease and grime with time and use. It is necessary to use caution when cleaning them. Stay away from substances with high levels of acid, because they can damage the aluminium. Opt for natural ingredients that will wash away dirt and restore original shine. With some common household items and noncorrosive cleaning agents, you can successfully clean aluminium bicycle wheels.

Instructions

  1. 1

Mix a solution of one part hot water and one part white vinegar. Vinegar is a safe cleaning agent to use on aluminium.

  2. 2

Heat the solution in a medium sauce pan over medium heat. Remove from heat and allow to cool just enough so you don't burn your finger when dipping it in the solution.

  3. 3

Dampen a clean sponge with the vinegar solution. Wipe down the entire aluminium surface of your bicycle wheel.

  4. 4

Allow the solution to set on the wheel for one hour. Use a hard-bristled brush to scrub away grease and grime. Make sure to get in between spokes and other hard-to-reach areas.

  5. 5

Rinse the wheel with fresh clean water. Dry with a terry cloth rag.
