An MSV audio file is specially designed by Sony as an audio compression file. MSV stands for Memory Stick Compressed Voice File. If you have an MSV (typically saved via a Sony voice recorder), you may find it difficult to find programs that recognise the file type. To increase the likelihood of a program reading the file or to place the file on an MP3 player, you need to convert the MSV audio file to MP3.

  1. 1

Download and install an MSV-to-MP3 audio converter. See the link in "Resources" that takes you to a download page for Switch Plus audio converter software. As of December 2009, the price was £18.30. The software can be used on all Windows and Mac computer systems.

  2. 2

Launch the converter software. A desktop icon will likely appear on your computer after the installation. If not, access the program by clicking "Start" followed by "All Programs," then select the program.

  3. 3

Select "Add Files" and choose all the MSV files you want to convert.

  4. 4

Click on the drop-down arrow next to "Output Format" near the bottom of the window. Select "MP3."

  5. 5

Choose "Browse" next to the "Output Folder" box. Select where on the computer you want the converted MP3 file to be saved.

  6. 6

Click "Convert" to begin the conversion process. The MSV file is not large, so the conversion will only take a few moments.
