Making liquid chalk can be a fun and cheap way to entertain you and your children. Although you can purchase liquid chalk from department stores, making your own is not only easy, but most of the time can be done with objects you may already have in your own home. In a short amount of time you can create liquid chalk and use it to decorate your sidewalks.

    Made easy

  1. 1

Pour 1 cup cornstarch and 1 tbsp flour into a bowl. Add 1/2 cup water and a few drops of your desired colour of food colouring. Add more or less drops depending on what colour you wish to create.

  2. 2

Stir the mixture and keep the consistency rather thick. If the mix is too thick, add 1 tsp of water. Add only 1 tsp of water at a time to prevent the mixture from becoming thin.

  3. 3

Pour the mixture into a zip lock bag. Cut a hole on the top corner of the bag to provide easy squeezing.

  4. 4

Grind up a chalk stick into powder. You can scrape the chalk against a cup for quick grinding. Add enough water to the powder to make a paint-like texture. (1 tbsp of water can be added for one whole piece of chalk). The chalk can be applied onto sidewalks or driveways using paint brushes.

Tips and warnings
