How to reset a projector lamp timer

When a projector lamp has been replaced, it is necessary to reset the lamp hours counter back to the factory zero starting point. Resetting the lamp hours counter is not a difficult process, however, it differs for each brand and model of projector. Refer to the user's manual for your specific brand and model of projector. Here are the steps to take for Sanyo, Sharp and NEC projectors.

    Sanyo PLC-XT35 & PLC-XT35L

    Attach the power cord to the projector and plug it into an electrical socket. Turn the projector on and allow it to initialise.

    Press the "Menu" button on the top of the projector. Use the left and right arrow buttons to move the red box pointer to the "Settings" icon.

    Use the up and down arrow buttons to move the red box pointer to the "Lamp Counter" icon. Press the "Select" button.

    A pop-up window will appear displaying the number of hours accumulated on the lamp. Below where the hours are displayed is the option to reset the counter. Select the "Reset" option and then select "Yes" to confirm. This will reset the lamp hours counter to zero and reset the indicator light.

    Sharp XG-C455W & PG-C355W

    Attach the power cord to the projector and plug it into an electrical socket.

    Locate the buttons on the top of the projector and simultaneously hold down the "Enter," "Menu" and "down arrow" buttons and then press the "Standby/On" button.

    Continue holding all four buttons until the lamp indicator light begins flashing green. The counter is now reset. Zero hours will now be displayed on the screen

    Attach the power cord to the projector and plug it into an electrical socket.

    Press the "Menu" button on the top of the projector and select the "Reset" option.

    Select the "Clear Lamp Hours" option to reset the lamp hours remaining and usage counter.

Tips and warnings

  • It is important to not reset the lamp hours to zero unless a new lamp has been installed. Projector lamps are rated for a certain number of hours, and if used beyond its intended life, the lamp could explode within the projector or fail causing the projector to not turn on at all.
