Whether you need to replace an old security monitor or you'd simply like to change to a higher-resolution monitor, your computer monitor is a great alternative to a standard security monitor. With the help of a VGA converter box, you can convert your security feed into a signal that's compatible with your computer monitor and use its higher-resolution monitor in place of a security monitor.

Instructions

  1. 1

Connect your computer monitor's VGA cable to the VGA Out port on your BNC/RCA to VGA converter box.

  2. 2

Connect your video source--a security DVR or camera--to the VGA converter. Connect one end of a BNC cable to the BNC port on the converter box and the opposite end to the BNC Out port on the security monitor. If your video source is RCA based, you will need to connect an RCA cable between the RCA Video Out ports on your video source and the RCA ports on the converter box.

  3. 3

Connect the tip of the BNC/RCA cable to the VGA converter's power supply into the power port on the converter. Plug the transformer end of the power supply into a power outlet and switch the converter on.

  4. 4

Press the input button on the converter box and select the appropriate input (e.g., if your video source is connected to the converter via BNC, select BNC).
