How to Decorate Clothes Hangers
Dress up your plain wire hangers. (Hangers image by TekinT from Fotolia.com)

Dressing up your coat hangers is a quick craft project. Add a bit of padding to a wire coat hanger to provide protection for your clothing. Include some decorative touches to create a hanger that is both functional and attractive for gift-giving or your own enjoyment. This project also makes use of all those plastic grocery bags you've accumulated. Select ribbons in solid colours or in stripes or patterns to spruce up your closet.

Instructions

    Padding

  1. 1

Begin by wrapping a plastic bag around the frame of the hanger.

  2. 2

Anchor the bag to the hanger with tape. Cover the hanger by wrapping as many bags as needed around the wire.

  3. 3

Wrap the bags tightly, creating a padded surface around the entire hanger. You will need 12 or more bags per hanger.

  4. 4

Repeat until the hanger is padded to your satisfaction. Secure the bags with tape.

    Ribbon

  1. 1

Apply a spot of glue with a glue gun at the base of the hanger hook to secure the end of the ribbon in position.

  2. 2

Wrap the ribbon tightly around the plastic bag padding, overlapping the ribbon for complete coverage.

  3. 3

End the ribbon at the base of the hook. Secure with another dot of glue. Cut off the ribbon, leaving 12 inches for a bow.

  4. 4

Tie the ribbon ends in a tight bow at the base of the hook.
