    Choose Your Materials

  1. 1

Choose a fabric that matches the bedroom decor. Usually, you should let your child choose. Make sure it isn't a heavy fabric; it should be lightweight enough to hang easily. Good choices are gauze, netting, light cotton or silk. Measure the fabric to fit the bed and hem it on all sides. Make sure you leave an opening on the side of the bed so your child can get into the bed.

  2. 2

Choose four ceiling hooks to use to hang the fabric. These can be decorative and should fit with your decor. Make sure the weight limit is sufficient to support your fabric.

  3. 3

Place the bed where you want it. Since the canopy will need space around the bed to drape properly, the sides of the bed should not be flush against the wall. A good place to locate a canopy bed is in the middle of the room with the headboard against a wall.

    Install Ceiling Hooks

  1. 1

Use a pencil to mark four spots on the ceiling above the four corners of the bed.

  2. 2

Use a drill to drill a hole in the first spot you marked.

  3. 3

Attach the anchor to the hook so the anchor folds downward.

  4. 4

Insert the hook and anchor into the ceiling hole. Push it up so the hook is flush against the ceiling to ensure that the anchor opens fully.

  5. 5

Screw the hook tighter until it is flush against the ceiling. Install the other three ceiling hooks in the same manner.

    Attach Fabric to Hooks

  1. 1

Hold the fabric against the hooks and decide where you want the fabric to attach to the hooks. Mark the spots where you want the fabric to attach with a fabric pencil.

  2. 2

Use scissors to cut small holes in the fabric on the spots you marked.

  3. 3

Attach grommets to each of the four holes in the fabric. Use the installer included in the grommet kit, or use a hammer.

  4. 4

Hang the canopy fabric on the hooks by putting the ceiling hooks through the grommet holes.

  5. 5

Arrange the canopy so it drapes the way you want it to around the bed. You can use ribbons or sashes to tie the fabric up or back, if desired.
