Making bear ears for a costume or play is an easy project. By using a purchased headband, you can glue craft fur into quick bear ears in under 30 minutes. Once you master bear ears, improvising other animal ear variations will be simple. This is a fun project to make at home or as a school classroom project. The supplies needed are readily available at your local craft or discount store and can be made by children with adult supervision.
Fold and cut the pipe cleaner in half. Glue 1/2 of the pipe cleaner to the center back, on the wrong side of the fur with the glue gun. Glue the other half of the pipe cleaner to the center back of the wrong side of another fur square.
Glue, with the glue gun, a fur square to one of the fur squares with the adhered pipe cleaner. Glue the wrong sides of the fur together. Repeat for the other fur square and glue it to the other fur square with the pipe cleaner adhered. Your resulting two "sandwiches" will consist of: fur square, glue, pipe cleaner, glue, fur square. These are the ears.
Trim, with the scissors, any excess pipe cleaner sticking out from the top and/or the bottom of the ear.
Use the scissors to trim the top corners into a rounded top resembling an upside down letter U.
Round, by cutting with the scissors, the top corners of the 2-inch by 2-inch squares of light brown felt in the same way you rounded the fur sandwiches. These are the "inner ear" pieces.
Glue, with the glue gun, one light brown felt piece onto a fur sandwich/ear. Glue, with the glue gun, the other light brown felt piece onto the other fur ear. Align the bottom edges.
Trim, with the scissors, the bottom edge of the ears so the bottom edges are straight.
Glue, with the glue gun, one bottom edge of one ear to the left side of the plastic headband. Glue, with the glue gun, the bottom edge of the other ear to the right side of the plastic headband. You might want to put the headband on first and decide on the best placement of the ear according to how the headband fits your or the "bear's" head. Allow the glue to dry.
Place the headband with the ears onto the wearer's head and bend the ears gently to position them as desired.
Use caution when operating glue guns as they can lead to burns and injuries.
