How to Make Waffles Without a Waffle Iron

Updated July 19, 2017

Traditionally, waffles are made in a waffle iron, which is what gives them their distinctive look. However, it is possible to make waffles without a waffle iron. There will be some differences in consistency and unless you have a square pan it won't have the traditional look of a waffle, but it will satisfy a craving for waffles even if you don't have a waffle iron.

Combine the waffle or pancake mix with the water, vegetable oil, cinnamon and egg yolks. Mix thoroughly with the whisk.

Place the egg whites in a separate bowl. Beat with the whisk until they form stiff peaks.

Carefully fold the egg whites into the mixture. Gently fold in the pecans, but don't over-mix or this can cause the egg whites to fall.

Add a small amount of butter to the frying pan. Carefully pour about ΒΌ of the batter into the pan.

Cook on one side as you would a pancake until all the bubbles are gone. Flip the waffle over and let cook for about 30 more seconds before transferring to a plate.

Cook the remaining batter in the same manner. Add your favorite waffle toppings and enjoy.

  • 2 cups water
  • 4 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • Cinnamon
