Next time you're preparing your guest room or planning a bridal shower gift, take a different approach to folding towels. Instead of simply folding them into boxlike shapes to stack on the counter or into a gift box, experiment with some tucks and rolls. Folding towels into decorative shapes is easy to do, and a little presentation will go a long way.

Instructions

    Bridal Cake

  1. 1

Lay a bath towel flat horizontally in front of you. Fold the edge closet to you one-third of the way up the towel. Fold the top of the towel down to meet the bottom edge. Start at one end, and roll the towel up. Lay out a second bath towel flat horizontally. Fold it the same as the first. Place the rolled up towel at the end of the second, and roll the second towel around the first one. Secure the rolled towel with a pin.

  2. 2

Lay a hand towel flat horizontally in front of you. Fold the edge closet to you one-third of the way up the towel. Fold the top of the towel down to meet the bottom edge. Start at one end, and roll the towel up. Lay out a second hand towel flat horizontally. Fold it the same as the first. Place the rolled up towel at the end of the second, and roll the second towel around the first one. Secure the rolled towel with a pin.

  3. 3

Lay a washcloth flat horizontally in front of you. Fold the edge closet to you one-third of the way up the washcloth. Fold the top of the washcloth down to meet the bottom edge. Start at one end and roll the washcloth up. Lay out a second washcloth flat horizontally. Fold it the same as the first. Place the rolled up washcloth at the end of the second and roll the second washcloth around the first one. Secure the rolled washcloth with a pin.

  4. 4

Tie a ribbon around each layer of the towel cake and stack the layers with the bath towels on the bottom, hand towels in the middle and washcloths on top. Top with a fanned out washcloth or gift bow.

    Pocket Full of Goodies

  1. 1

Lay the washcloth flat in front of you. Fold the bottom edge about a quarter of the way up the washcloth. Carefully turn the washcloth over, keeping the folded bottom edge.

  2. 2

Fold one side of the washcloth in one-third. Fold the other side of the washcloth over to meet the folded edge. Fold the washcloth in half bringing the top edge down to meet the bottom edge. Turn the washcloth over. A pocket has been created on the front of the washcloth.

  3. 3

Tuck small soaps, travel size containers of shampoo and toothpaste, or mints in the pocket of the washcloth, and set it out for your guests.

Tips and warnings

  • For the bridal cake, you can use as many towels in each layer as you choose. If you're including a bath mat with the gift, wrap it into the bottom layer.
