Securing Chicken Wire to Wooden Stakes

  1. 1

Staple one end of the chicken wire to the first wooden stake by stapling from the bottom up. This ensures that the chicken wire is stapled from the correct position flush against the ground.

  2. 2

Pull the chicken wire out and tightly around the next wooden stake.

  3. 3

    Hold the chicken wire taut.

  4. 4

Staple the chicken wire to the wooden stake starting from the bottom as before.

  5. 5

Attach the chicken wire to all the wooden stakes with this process.

Securing Chicken Wire to Metal Stakes

  1. 1

Pry the hooks of the metal stakes open by positioning a screwdriver between them and pushing out.

  2. 2

Place the chicken wire onto the hooks, positioning it so that the bottom of the wire is flush against the ground.

  3. 3

Hold the sledge hammer behind the metal stake and use a standard hammer to pound the hooks shut. This secures the chicken wire to the stakes.

Tips and warnings

  • Secure chicken wire more firmly by hooking tent stakes through the bottom of the wire and then pounding the tent stakes into the ground.
  • Beware of improperly securing chicken wire because it could cause your fencing or pen to be less effective than if properly secured.
