Beautiful and versatile ivy garland is a staple item for many decorators. From the decorations adorning the latest bridal bouquet to the nooks and crannies of any wine rack, ivy garland can add a touch of greenery and elegant beauty in just a few minutes. It's easy to clean, inexpensive and can dress up almost any arrangement or room, whether its style is country chic or vintage Italian.
Decorate a candelabra or a tall candle holder by wrapping ivy garland in and out of its arms. Make sure the leaves are not tangled under the vine portion of the garland. Add candles with bright fall colours such as red, green and gold to really bring out the colour of the ivy.
Adorn a wooden bookshelf with sprigs of ivy garland. Drape it in the front of the shelves or around candle holders and knick-knacks on the shelves. If you'd like to add a bit of colour, add silk flower clusters.
Create a bit of nostalgia. Black and white photos in silver frames look great with a small cluster of ivy leaves attached. Use a bit of tape on the back to secure the vine. Pull the leaves to the front of the frame.
Display your photos and their ivy decorations on the mantel of your fireplace. Add extra swags of garland, wisps of baby's breath and brightly coloured candles in glass candle holders.
Use ivy to add a touch of elegance to a wedding. Decorate an outdoor gazebo with long strands of ivy garland and touches of wedding flower colour here and there along the vine. Create a long ivy train for the front of a bridal bouquet by positioning a long piece of garland at the bottom front of the bouquet under the flowers.
Decorate a wine rack in vintage Tuscany style by weaving pieces of the ivy garland through its openings. Top off with decorative grapes, bottles of wine with beautiful labels and wine glasses. Create a mini-display next to the wine rack by arranging a few of the wine bottles and glasses in a pleasing fashion and wrapping a small strand of ivy garland around the stems of the glasses.
Enhance an ivy-patterned dinnerware set with an ivy-themed centrepiece, complete with some of the garland and flowers. Look for items such as ivy-shaped napkin holders and glasses patterned with ivy leaves.
When doing decorating of any kind, the most important thing to keep in mind is your own tastes. Ivy garland--as can be seen by the examples--is a versatile decorating tool but certainly not limited to the examples. Good decorating is often the result of a good imagination and being willing to step out and try something new.
