A roof rack is a convenient thing to have on your car, because it gives you the ability to carry heavier loads on top of the vehicle, as well as put larger items there as well. The installation isn't very complicated, and can be done in about an hour. Mopar makes the official roof rack for the PT Cruiser from Chrysler, although the process is similar for other makes of roof racks as well.

Things you need
- Mopar Roof rack with installation kit
- Tape measure
Place the roof rack key in the end of the roof rack and remove the end. This is a security feature that prevents the rack from being stolen. Repeat this process on each end of each section of roof rack.
Peel out the rubber strip in the middle of the roof rack, which exposes the screws in the middle.
Open the doors on your PT Cruiser and pull down the rubber trim at the top of each door. This is where the rack will mount.
Place the roof racks onto the roof. They should be about 27 1/2 inches apart from the outside of the centre rails. The front of the crossrail of the front rack should be about 7 7/8 inches from the door jam between the front and rear doors. You can measure these distances with the tape measure.
Loosen the centre screw on the roof rack that was exposed when you pulled off the rubber strip using the provided tool. Push the rack into the door jam and then tighten the screw to secure the rack. Repeat this process on each corner.
Push the rubber moulding over the roof rack and back into the stock location using your hands.
Reinstall the rubber strip on the cross bar and reinsert the end plug using the key.
