How to Fill a Ronson Lighter

Updated February 21, 2017

Ronson manufactures a line of electronic lighters fuelled by butane gas. A nozzle on the bottom of the lighter connects to a butane canister for quick refills. Basic safety precautions include working in a well-ventilated area away from all sources of heat and flame. This means no smoking while refilling the Ronson, and the lighter cannot be used during the procedure.

Turn the lighter upside down when it is at room temperature and has not been used for several minutes.

Remove the valve cover from the bottom of the lighter with a screwdriver by turning counterclockwise.

Press the screwdriver gently into the valve button to release any air inside the lighter.

Place the Ronson butane adaptor on the nozzle of the butane refill canister.

Turn the canister upside-down and insert the nozzle into the valve of the lighter.

Press and hold the canister firmly into the lighter valve for five seconds, then remove.

Replace the valve cover and adjust the flame-control wheel on the lighter to the lowest position.

Wipe off any butane liquid on the lighter and be sure all fuel has completely evaporated from any spills before using the lighter.

Things You'll Need

  • Butane gas refill canister
  • Small screwdriver
  • Ronson butane adaptor (comes with the lighter or buy a replacement from a tobacco shop)
