Resetting BMW service lights should be done after the intended service has been completed. On most BMW models, this is a simple procedure. The service lights are reset by using a service light reset tool available from BMW. The tool is connected to to the diagnostic connector, located on the fuse panel in the passenger cabin. BMWs made before 1988 used a 15-pin connector. BMWs after 1987 used a 20-pin connector. Both types of connectors are reset the same way.
