The pasties require a little preparation time, and they cook for less than one hour in the oven. The pasties are different from pies. 1. 1

Peel the potatoes. Remove all of the potato skins. Rinse the potatoes under cold water. Dice the potatoes into small cubes.

  2. 2

Peel the medium onion. Mince the onion into small pieces.

  3. 3

Melt 1 tbsp of butter in a frying pan. Cook the onions and potatoes until they start to brown. This will take around 15 minutes under high heat.

  4. 4

Mix all of the ingredients. Place the diced potatoes, minced onions, cheddar cheese, egg, parsley, salt and pepper in a mixing bowl. Stir until the ingredients are well blended. This will be the pastie filling.

  5. 5

Divide the puff pastry into four equal sections. Roll each puff pastry out until they are 6 inches in diameter.

  6. 6

Place ¼ of the pastie filling in the middle of each pastry. Equally, divide all of the filling among the puff pastries.

Press the fork along the edge of the pastry to crimp the edges of the pasties.

  9. 9

Brush milk on the pasties. Place the cheese and onion pasties on a non-stick baking pan.

Bake the pasties in the oven for 35 minutes at 204 degrees C, or until the pasties are golden brown.
