Whirlpool manufactures conventional ovens for residential use, which feature both baking and broiling in the oven compartment. Though both elements heat the oven, the lower element is used for baking purposes and the upper element is used for broiling. The bake element is used to heat the compartment air, whereas the grill element applies direct heat to the food surface. Both elements can be replaced with a screwdriver and basic mechanical skill.
